New Construction Cleanup Guide

New-construction debris changes shape as a build progresses, and the right dumpster strategy changes with it. Here's how we typically plan it with builders working around Altoona and the Town of Washington.

Framing phase

Offcuts, packaging and general framing waste are bulky and light — a 30 yard is the most commonly booked size for this phase on a standard single-family build.

Rough-in and finish phases

Drywall scraps, flooring offcuts, fixture packaging and trim waste tend to run smaller in volume than framing debris. A 20 yard often covers this stretch, sometimes stepping down further toward the end of the build.

Final cleanup

The last container of a build is usually mixed and lighter — leftover packaging, minor debris, site cleanup material. Many builders schedule this as a smaller final swap rather than keeping the big framing-phase container on site the whole time.

Scheduled swap-outs

We run scheduled swaps so a fresh container arrives as the full one leaves, keeping crews working instead of standing around waiting on a truck. Most single-family builds run one or two 30 yard containers total, with a swap between framing and final cleanup.

Concrete and masonry: always separate

Foundation and footing debris — concrete, block, excavated fill dirt — needs its own dedicated, weight-limited container, usually a 10 or 15 yard, rather than mixing it into the framing debris box.

Winter and spring-thaw builds

Frozen ground handles a loaded container differently than soft, thawing ground. We plan delivery and pickup timing around the season, and will flag directly if a specific date needs to shift for site conditions.
